Mother Shot and Killed Outside South Miami-Dade Home

A mother was shot and killed Sunday morning in front of a South Miami-Dade home.

Childhood friends of 31-year-old Shevone Vinson were still in shock, hours after she was shot to death outside her boyfriend's family home.

“She was a good mother. She took care of her kids; she was always there no matter what. I can’t believe this just happened,” said Kenneth Baxter, a friend of the victim.

Witnesses at the scene said the mother of four was shot at multiple times while sitting inside of a car around 3 a.m.

“It just happened so fast,” said Latroy Cross, a witness.

Cross attended Homestead Senior High School with Vinson. Cross said her boyfriend, who is also the father of their kids, parked right outside his mother’s home on Southwest 147th Place in South Miami-Dade at the time.

“I look down the street and I hear a commotion. I’m thinking a simple argument. It’s Saturday night, maybe people partying, drinking. Suddenly, I just heard boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,” said Cross.

Cross was home and remembered a car pulling up to Vinson and an irate man inside the other vehicle.

“After they did the gunshots, you know I’m running down the street, they almost hit me,” said Cross.

Cross couldn’t spot the car that took off, but said Vinson’s boyfriend was inside his mom’s house as shots were fired. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Police are investigating and are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
