Miami-Dade Corrections Officer Arrested on Sexual Battery Charges

Yulian Gonzalez, a 36-year-old Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation officer, faces charges of armed sexual battery and armed kidnapping.

A Miami-Dade Corrections officer was accused of raping a woman he supervised while she was on house arrest, prosecutors said Friday.

Yulian Gonzalez, a 36-year-old Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation officer, faces charges of armed sexual battery and armed kidnapping, according to an arrest warrant.

Gonzalez was assigned as a case manager for a 43-year-old woman who was placed on house arrest for an unrelated case. The victim told police Gonzalez would rape her when he conducted his mandatory visitations and would also threaten to violate her house arrest status and incarcerate her if she didn't comply with his demands for sex, the warrant said.

Gonzalez allegedly took the victim to the Nexx Motel on NW 27th Avenue at least four times and forced her to perform sex acts on him, prosecutors said. He also tampered with her ankle monitoring device. Surveillance footage from earlier this month shows Gonzalez checking into the motel and entering a room with the victim.

The victim told police she rejected Gonzalez's advances and told him she was not interested in men, to which he replied, "we need to change that," prosecutors said.

"Having any law enforcement officer commit a crime, violating his oath to protect this community, is always a betrayal," State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said. "I am proud of the actions of the actions of the Miami-Dade Police Department and the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department Internal Affairs Bureau to bring the alleged activities of this individual to an end."

Gonzalez has been with Miami-Dade Corrections for 11 years.

"We are saddened that the actions of one employee could tarnish the good work of the proud men and women of MDCR who dedicate their lives to ensuring the safety of the public," said director Daniel Junior. "MDCR takes allegations of employee misconduct seriously and this arrest should send a strong message that employees involved in these types of crimes will not be tolerated and will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law. At no time will this department tolerate behavior that violates the law or our community's trust. MDCR will continue to cooperate with the Miami-Dade Police Department regarding this incident.

Gonzalez is being held in jail without bond.
