Authorities are searching for a man who was caught on camera swinging a sword at another man during a dispute over a trash pile in Oakland Park.
Broward Sheriff's Office officials on Monday released video of the July 15 incident in the hopes of finding the sword-swinging man and a woman who was also seen in the footage.
Investigators say the victim had gone for a jog in his neighborhood and stumbled upon a bulk trash pile in front of a vacant home in the area of Prospect Road and Northwest 11th Terrace.
The jogger noticed another man who was going through items and the other man became upset, feeling he had rights over the pile since he was looking through it first, officials said.
The two exchanged words and the jogger took the cart and pushed it home, but the other man followed him home carrying what appeared to be a red stick. As the suspect got closer, he pulled out a long sword from the red sheath and started swinging it at the jogger while trying to take the cart, officials said.
The man with the sword left but threatened to return. Moments later, a woman came and took the cart away as she hurled insults at the jogger, officials said.
Authorities in Florida are searching for the man and woman, who they believe know each other. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
