After a very quiet August, the Atlantic Hurricane Season is heating up with numerous areas to watch over the next week or so.
Hurricane Florence is one of those areas as it churns out into the Central Atlantic. The storm has intensified to a category 3 hurricane, making it the first major hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Florence is about 1,185 miles east northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph.
Florence is forecasted to continue intensifying as it moves northwest over the next few days. That being said, this storm could potentially impact the United States east coast.

At this time, it does not appear to impact South Florida. However, there is still much uncertainty with this forecast as it is more than 5 days out. Hurricane Florence will need to be closely monitored for the extended period.
Behind Florence, there are two tropical waves that bear watching over the next 5 days as well.
Local
One of them is centered a couple hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and has a 90% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next 5 days as it moves west-northwest into central Atlantic.
Behind that, another tropical wave is forecasted to emerge off the western coast of Africa in the next few days. This system has a development chance of 30% in the next 5 days.
