Singer Enrique Iglesias is facing misdemeanor charges of obstruction and driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in Miami-Dade County last month, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
According to the FHP, on May 6, Iglesias was pulled over in a Cadillac Escalade after a trooper spotted the SUV driving northbound on Interstate 95 in the closed express lanes.
As the trooper pulled the Escalade over, Iglesias jumped from the driver's seat into the back and the passenger got into the driver's seat, according to an FHP arrest affidavit. Iglesias then climbed into the passenger seat, the report said.
"It was Mr. Iglesias that was the initial driver, yes," FHP Lt. Julio Pajon said.
Iglesias and the passenger, identified as Abel Tabuyo, were handcuffed, and Iglesias invoked his Miranda rights, the report said. Tabuyo said he didn't know why he switched seats with Iglesias, the report said.
Iglesias and Tabuyo, who was also charged with obstruction without violence, were released after signing notices to appear in court. Both entered not guilty pleas and Iglesias' next court date was set for July 10.
NBC 6 reached out to Iglesias' attorney and is awaiting an official comment.

The alleged incident happened just a few weeks before the 40-year-old Iglesias badly injured his hand after grabbing a drone at a concert in Tijuana, Mexico. He later underwent reconstructive hand surgery in Los Angeles.
