All existing eastbound and westbound ramps from State Road 836 to southbound State Road 826 will close this weekend, while four new ramps or bridges to southbound State Road 826 will open on Sunday, officials say.
Many changes will affect drivers at the interchange of SR 836 (the Dolphin Expressway) and SR 826 (the Palmetto Expressway), as part of the interchange reconstruction project being carried out by the Florida Department of Transportation and the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority.
They include:
- Westbound Dolphin Expressway drivers who want to go south on the Palmetto Expressway, West Flagler Street or Southwest 8th Street will need to use the second southbound Palmetto exit.
- Westbound Dolphin Expressway drivers who would like to head south on the Palmetto will need to exit immediately after the northbound Palmetto exit ramp. There will be no access to West Flagler Street or Southwest 8th Street from that bridge, officials say.
- Eastbound Dolphin Expressway drivers who want to go south on the Palmetto will continue to use the existing exit. However, there will be no access to West Flagler Street or Southwest 8th Street from that ramp.
- Eastbound Dolphin Expressway drivers who would like to go south on the Palmetto and exit onto West Flagler Street or Southwest 8th Street must stay on the mainline Dolphin Expressway to access the new ramp.
A variety of lane closures will take effect – beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and lasting through the overnight hours, with more changes beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday – in advance of the openings of the new ramps or bridges on Sunday.
