Nine people were shot in Miami Monday afternoon, according to Miami-Dade police.

The shooting happened just before 5 p.m. near the intersection of NW 17th Avenue and 87th Street.

Police said the incident was a drive-by shooting at Arcola Lakes Park. Four of the victims were taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Five other victims took themselves to another hospital for treatment.

One of the victims, a 16-year-old boy, was hit in the head and is listed in critical condition. The other victims were hit in their extremities.

Eight of the victims were between the ages of 16 and 21 years old. One victim's age was not immediately available.

Police said the shooters remain at large. The suspects' car is described as a dark newer model Nissan Maxima.

"If they want to kill, go to the army where they can get paid to kill and do things instead of killing innocent people; makes no sense," said Robert, an uncle of one of the victims.
