The Broward State Attorney’s Office said Friday that it secured multiple-count indictments against the defendants charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed two cyclists in Cooper City earlier this month.
Obrian Oakley, 26, was indicted by a grand jury on Thursday two counts of felony first-degree murder, two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of aggravated fleeing and five counts of burglary, according to the State Attorney’s Office.
Sadik Baxter, 25, was indicted on two counts of felony first-degree murder and five counts of burglary, prosecutors said.
The pair broke into five cars in the Rock Creek neighborhood on Aug. 5 before a resident alerted police, who responded to the 3700 block of Beach Way and arrested Baxter, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Oakley drove off in his girlfriend’s silver Infinity and ran through a red light at Sheridan Street and Palm Avenue, where the car was hit by a Toyota Corolla. The Infiniti in turn struck two bicyclists, 60-year-old Dean Amelkin of Coral Springs and 61-year-old Christopher McConnell of Cooper City, who were killed at the scene, according to the BSO.

Oakley ran away but later gave himself up, the BSO said.
Both men are being held on no bond, Oakley at the Broward County Main Jail and Baxter at the North Broward Bureau, according to online BSO records.
Oakley is represented by public defender Brian Reidy, while Baxter’s attorney is Utpal Dighe, according to online Broward court records.
