More than a dozen people were arrested on Miami-Dade's north side Friday as weeks of undercover work paid off for police.
Detectives spent the day going door-to-door looking for specific violent offenders, making 13 arrests in a crime crackdown as part of "Operation Save Our Streets."
"We have an increase of violent crimes and gun violence here in our district and we are basically just trying to put an end to it," Miami-Dade Police Capt. Shawn Browne said.
One arrest was a woman accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on an elderly person. One man was arrested after police said drugs were found in the home where he was staying.
"We're looking for the people in involved in violent crimes. aggravated assaults, aggravated batteries," Capt. Browne said.
The biggest arrest was a man police believe is responsible for shooting three people back on Nov. 16 in Miami. Of the 13 arrests, seven were on felony charges ranging from weapons violations to shooting suspects.
"The goal is to pick up the ones that we've identified in the shootings but we often come across other individuals, they often have outstanding warrants," Capt. Browne said.

Officials said it's a dangerous job, in a part of town where two Miami-Dade officers were ambushed and shot earlier this week.
"We are hoping people don't stay silent cause at the end of the day this is affecting their own community and we need to get these violent individuals off the streets," Capt. Browne said.
