One suspect was arrested Friday in connection with a recent armed robbery of a victim’s gold chain, but three unidentified suspects remain at large, Hialeah Police said.
Hialeah Police detectives found and arrested the 17-year-old suspect at 12:50 a.m. Friday and charged him with one count of armed robbery, police said. It wasn’t immediately known whether he has an attorney.
The suspect was arrested as a juvenile, but that may change very soon, Hialeah Police spokesman Carl Zogby said.
Police said that on July 2 at about 1:30 p.m., three suspects got out of a black Ford Escape at 395 East 10th Ave. and immediately robbed the male victim of his gold chain in a parking lot there. At least one of the suspects was armed and pistol-whipped the victim, police said in an arrest affidavit.
After they forcibly took the chain, the suspects fled in the Ford Escape driven by a fourth suspect, police said.

The victim told police that he had been driving around in his vehicle, which has a “For Sale” sign and his cell phone number on the window, and received a call from an unknown male with a blocked number who wanted to meet and look at the vehicle. They arranged to meet at 395 East 10th Ave., but after the Ford Escape arrived, the victim was tackled to the ground, where he was whipped with a handgun on the head and had the chain ripped from his neck, the affidavit said.

Prints left by the 17-year-old suspect on a vehicle that he touched in the parking lot helped to identify him, the affidavit said.
He chose not to speak with police about the robbery and was taken to jail, the affidavit said. He is suspected of other armed robberies throughout the county, according to police, who said they are still investigating.

The three at-large suspects are considered armed and dangerous, police said. They asked anyone with information on the case to call Hialeah Police at 305-687-2525 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
