Man shot and killed in Pompano Beach, neighbors say roommate detained

A shooting in Pompano Beach left one person dead and another detained for questioning on Wednesday morning.

A man was killed and another was detained after a shooting at a Pompano Beach apartment early Wednesday, authorities said.

Broward Sheriff's Office officials said deputies responded to the building along the 1300 block of Northeast 4th Street around 8 a.m. where they found the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other individual present was detained for questioning, according to the BSO.

Officials haven't identified the victim or person who was detained, but neighbors said they're roommates.

Neighbors said they spotted the mother of one of the men involved outside the apartment in tears.

"The mom of one of the persons in the apartment, I have no idea, she was pacing back and forth so I just gave her some coffee and a tissue," the neighbor said.. "She just said 'it’s my son, he called me and then he called 911' and that’s all she knew."

The incident happened near Pompano Beach High School, which was placed under "limited movement" as a precaution, officials said.

BSO homicide detectives are investigating.
