Amanda Plasencia joined the NBC 6 news team as a reporter in July of 2015.
Born and raised in sunny South Florida, Amanda is thrilled to be back reporting in her hometown.
The Miami native graduated New York University with a Master's Degree in Journalism, a Bachelor's Degree in Music and a minor in Communications.
Before joining the NBC 6 team, Amanda worked as a reporter for News 12 Brooklyn/The Bronx and WCBS 880 Radio. While in college, she also interned at NBC 4 New York, NY1 Noticias and CBS Channel One.
Amanda loves to hear and tell a good story.
Her most notable reports include covering the Eric Garner protests, the tragic deaths of two NYPD officers and Superstorm Sandy. Her report on autism was part of a special segment that won a New York State Associated Press Award.
She's also traveled to Cuba to report on her family heritage, visited Detroit to report on crime and covered immigration issues at the Arizona-Mexican border.
Amanda is fluent in English and Spanish and is learning Chinese and Italian! When she's not reporting, Amanda enjoys singing, dancing, biking, fishing, sports, cooking and photography.
Amanda is a proud member of the National Association for Hispanic Journalists.
