Man Impersonates Cop, Demands Discount for Doughnuts: Deputies

Charles T. “Chuck” Barry showed a law enforcement Sheriff Star Badge at a local Dunkin' Donuts and demanded a discount, the sheriff’s office said.

A Pasco County man who impersonated a law enforcement officer and demanded a discount on doughnuts was released from jail Tuesday, authorities said.

Charles T. "Chuck" Barry was seen on surveillance video displaying his fake badge and firearm, Pasco Sheriff's Office said.

On Nov. 6 Barry showed a law enforcement Sheriff Star Badge at a local Dunkin' Donuts and demanded a discount, the sheriff’s office said.

But when Barry was denied the discount, he held up his firearm and said “See I am a cop!”

Barry returned to the Dunkin' Donuts on Nov. 7 and a store manager was able to take his license plate, authorities said.

Then on Nov. 12 authorities set up surveillance video at the store and later conducted a traffic stop, the sheriff’s office said.

During the traffic stop, Barry had a law enforcement badge in his wallet and a caliber revolver in his front pocket, deputies said.

He was identified by the store employees and Barry was arrested on one count of false impersonation of a law enforcement officer and improper exhibition of a firearm. He was released on a $5,150 bond, according to a jail official. It wasn’t immediately known if he had an attorney.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate and is asking the public to come forward if they have seen Barry impersonating a law enforcement officer in other occasions. Anyone with information is asked to contact the PSO's Crime Tips line at 1-800-706-2488.
