It's not enough to look like the baddest man on the planet. Occasionally you have to fight like it.
Kimbo Slice learned that lesson the hard way when he found himself unemployed (like many in Florida) after being personally fired by UFC President Dana White. The firing came after Slice was pounded into submission by a less than elite heavyweight, emphasis on the heavy, at UFC 113.
Looks like it's back to backyards and back alley parking lots for Slice, who made a name for himself by knocking out average Joes around Miami in spectacular fashion and placing the violent footage on YouTube.com.
Somehow Slice parlayed being a backyard brawler into becoming the most sought after free agent in martial arts history. Even White, who vowed never to hire Slice and called him a fraud, gave the big puncher a contract in hopes of cashing in on Slice's popularity.
And it worked to a certain degree. Slice's appearance on "The Ultimate Fighter" boosted ratings for UFC's reality TV show, but he never materialized as a viable fighter against guys who were more than just garbage men or the neighborhood bully.
So it's probably fitting that White is the man who will likely end Slice's mixed martial arts career.
