Is Miami Behind Dalton Red-Headed Conspiracy?

Someone in the NFL thinks Andy Dalton needs a new hair color

It's not like anyone is calling Andy Dalton's mom a prostitute, but recent criticism about his head or the color of it does seem quite Miami Dolphin-ish.

The TCU quarterback and potential first-round draft pick has found himself in the middle of a draft day controversy because his hair is red.

An unnamed NFL coach reportedly questioned whether teams should shy away from Dalton, not because of his intelligence, arm strength or some kind of intangible, but because of his "entanglables."

"Has there ever been a red-headed quarterback in the NFL who's really done well?" a coach asked a reporter about Dalton according to SI.com. "It sounds idiotic, but is there any way that could be a factor? We've wondered."

It doesn't sound idiotic. It sounds Miami Dolphin.

Miami, who is in the market for a quarterback and has the 15th pick, is also known as the franchise that isn't afraid to ask the asinine of a young man who could potentially become the face of the franchise.

Case in point, wide receiver Dez Bryant, who was asked before last year's NFL draft by Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland if his mom was a hoe, and he wasn't talking about garden tools.

Bryant, of course, went on to light the league on fire after the Dolphins passed on him and let the Dallas Cowboys scoop him up.

Now comes Dalton and concerns about his fiery colored hair.

True, sandy blond or brown seems to be the "in" hair colors for successful NFL signal callers, but surely there is a place for red heads.

Former San Francisco QB Jeff Garcia was a red head and he was pretty successful although he bounced from team to team. He also went bald, so there's another option for Dalton.

Maybe there is a set of marketing commandments that admonish NFL teams to avoid red-head QBs like the plague, but more than likely this is the machinations of one stupid franchise over-analyzing a young player and potentially screwing up their draft.

Sounds like the Dolphins to us.
