A Tri-Rail train was knocked off its tracks after it collided with a tractor trailer in Pompano Beach Friday afternoon.
The train sustained heavy damage to its front car in the crash which happened at about 4:10 p.m. at the Atlantic Boulevard crossing, Tri-Rail spokeswoman Bonnie Arnold said.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded after getting a call a minute later, Pompano Beach city spokeswoman Sandra King said in an email.
The Broward Sheriff's Office advised drivers to avoid the area of Atlantic Boulevard and Andrews Avenue for several hours while the truck's load was cleaned up and the crash site was cleared.
The accident and cleanup caused some significant delays on the Tri-Rail later Friday, with one train delayed up to 100 minutes, Arnold said.
Passengers were told to take alternate transportation and many did, she said.
Trains will return to their regular schedules Saturday morning, Arnold said.
