Twin 15-year-old girls were rushed to the hospital after their North Miami home was shot up during a drive-by shooting, North Miami Police confirm.
The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m Monday at Northwest 122nd Street and Tenth Avenue in North Miami. Aerial footage showed several police cars surrounding the home.
The twin girls were taken to Ryder Trauma. According to police, they each suffered non-life threatening injuries. One of the twins returned home later Monday morning after being shot in the left leg.
"I was sleeping," victim Widline Joseph said, adding she didn't know anything was wrong until she saw her other sister. "I ran into the kitchen and my big sister said 'are you bleeding?"
Miriame Joseph, Widline's twin sister, was shot six times and remained at the hospital Monday. Family said she needs surgery, but should be okay. A newborn baby who was in the house wasn't hurt.
Neighbors told NBC 6 that this is not the first time gunmen have targeted the home. Widline Joseph said a similar shooting happened last month.
"They shot seven times, that time I was not there, I was at my friend's house," she said.
Police are investigating and don't believe the sisters were the intended targets.
