South Florida Man Jailed on Gun Charge Claims Terror Sympathy: FBI

A South Florida man jailed on weapons charges allegedly told an FBI informant he sympathized with the Islamic State terrorist group and wanted to shoot people.

An FBI affidavit filed in federal court earlier this month identifies the man as 46-year-old Miguel Moran Diaz, who also used the name Azizi al Hariri. The affidavit says Diaz told the informant he was a "lone wolf" and had weapons that would allow him to shoot people as a sniper.

The FBI later recovered several guns from Diaz's apartment. No actual ties to the Islamic State group were found, although agents did find postings related to the group on his Facebook page.

Diaz has pleaded not guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was previously convicted of cocaine trafficking.
