A SunPass scam is targeting consumers with emails pretending to collect unpaid tolls by threatening possible court action, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
FDOT said an email address – SunPassNotice@ezpass-collections.net – is contacting residents with the following message:
“Please find the attached invoice for past due tolls that have been charged to your Sun Pass account. Failure to pay will result in a summons for court appearance within 30 days.”
The email also includes a link to a fake invoice in which the sender is identified as “Sun Pass Collections Inc,” or “Sun Pass Collections Inc Linebargar Goggen Blaiir, LLP.”
FDOT Interim Secretary Erik R. Fenniman issued the warning which emphasizes that the solicitations are not associated with FDOT or Florida's Turnpike Enterprise.
"Please be aware that FTE does not send toll invoices through email. Official toll invoices are sent only through U.S. mail.," FDOT said in a statement.

Anyone who receives the scam email may file a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center.
The only way to make an official toll payment is through the SunPass website, which displays the warning on its homepage.
