A small plane with three people on board went down in the water off Haulover Beach inlet Friday, U.S. Coast Guard officials confirm. All three people survived the crash.
The FAA says the Cessna 206 went down 23 miles east of Fort Lauderdale in the area of 108th Street and Collins Avenue around 10:30 a.m. All three people on board were pulled from the water and no injuries have been reported.
The plane departed Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport Friday morning and was on its way to the Bahamas when it went down, the FAA said.
A nearby Good Samaritan rescued the group and brought them onto his yacht, the "Free Spirit."
"I was able to talk to the pilot, he is an experienced pilot flying sea planes, maybe that's why it was such a smooth landing," said Eli Melcom with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The group was headed to 1784 Southeast 15th Street in Fort Lauderdale to receive medical treatment from EMS officials at the 15th Street ramp.
The pilot reported engine problems as the reason for the incident.
