Police are investigating after at least two cats have been found dead under mysterious circumstances in the same Palmetto Bay neighborhood in the past week.
The first cat was found Monday in its owner's front yard on Southwest 84th Court Monday morning, according to a Miami-Dade Police incident report.
"It is unknown how the cat perished," the report said.
The next day and on the same street, a woman found her pet cat dead in her front yard. The woman, who doesn't want to be identified, said the cat was pierced by an arrow.
"She had a big hole in her back and there was flesh coming out of the back and her spinal cord had been cut in half," said the cat's owner, who asked not to be identified.
Police aren't sure if the two deaths are linked but both are under investigation.
In 2009, a South Florida teen was arrested after police accused him of mutilating and killing 19 cats in Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay. The charges against Tyler Weinman were later dropped in November 2010.
The cat owner who spoke to NBC 6 said she doesn't believe the recent cat deaths are related to the previous incidents.
