A naked statue of Donald Trump that stood over a section of the Wynwood neighborhood for nearly a week was stolen Thursday - and now, police have named a "person of interest" in the case.
Police think 36-year-old Pedro Rodriguez was involved in the early morning theft, officials said. The vehicle used in the crime - a 2013 gray Ford F-150 truck with the tag number CMW-M58 - is registered to Rodriguez.
One of five statues created by a Cleveland man showing the GOP Presidential nominee with no clothes on had been at a display near Northwest 2nd Avenue and 23rd Street. It was moved there after first appearing on top of a billboard just blocks away before police asked it to be moved over safety concerns.
A skateboarder who was nearby said he witnessed the theft.
"I was like, 'let me go save Donald,'" Angel Pino said. "He just pulled it and ran, so I just ran after him and said 'stop, stop!'"
Pino said the group of thieves took off but he was able to get a picture of their license plate.
The statues began appearing last month in places such as Los Angeles, Seattle and New York City – which was the first location of the one that later appeared in South Florida.
