A South Florida family was displaced by a fire Sunday morning. Now investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
The fire started just before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday at a home on East Saint Andrews Drive in Northwest Miami-Dade.
When firefighters arrived, they found that the home was engulfed in flames.
Officials said four people were inside the nearly 4,000 square foot home when the flames started. Everyone made it out uninjured. First responders treated one person for smoke inhalation. One of the family’s dogs did not make it out alive.
Officials said the home was a total loss.
“The fire was so extensive that it took four attack lines an hour and a half,” said Batallion Chief Ray Jadallah of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Investigators are now working to figure out what caused the fire. One possibility is the family’s Christmas tree.

“They did have a Christmas tree that was still up. We’re taking a look into the possibility of the Christmas tree toppling over by one of the dogs,” said Jadallah.
But it’s still too early to determine if that’s what caused the blaze. To be cautious, firefighters are urging others who still have their Christmas trees up to get rid of them, as they are sure to be very dry by now, making them a fire hazard.
