The Miami Marlins rebounded from a shutout loss in a big way with a 14-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.
Only a day after failing to produce a single run, the Marlins scored eight in the seventh inning in this one. During that inning, Miami set a franchise record when it tallied nine straight hits. The Marlins had 21 hits in all, and were not fooled in the slightest by the Reds' staff.
Cole Gillespie continued to swing a hot bat with a three-hit day that included a double and a home run. It was the fifth double of the season for the outfielder and his first blast of the year. Gillespie is hitting .333 and should remain in the lineup going forward.
J.T. Realmuto also had a three-hit day that featured a double (12) and a home run (4). Miami's catcher brought home four runs of his own. Since taking over catching duties, Realmuto has compiled a .251 average.
Dee Gordon had three hits as well before falling victim to a dislocated hand. The second baseman who was set to take part in the All-Star Game injured the hand on a slide. Gordon will miss a couple of weeks of action, and is likely headed to the disabled list.
Adam Conley made his MLB debut and earned a win with five solid innings. Conley who was optioned back to AAA after the game allowed two runs, struck out two and walked a pair. The prospect should be back in the big leagues later this season.
The Marlins will wrap up their first half on Sunday when Dan Haren takes the mound against the Reds.
