A day after airports across the U.S. ramped up security following the announcement of Osama bin Laden's death, two passengers at Miami International Airport were caught carrying guns and ammunition in the terminal, officials said.
One man was detained at Concourse D on Tuesday morning after he attempted to cross a checkpoint with a gun in his luggage. The other passenger was caught with boxes of ammunition in his carry-on.
According to Miami-Dade Police, the unidentified man was stopped with the gun as he went through a security area in an American Airlines terminal around 10:30 a.m.
Police say the man told authorities he had forgotten it was in his bag, but that he had a permit to carry it.
The man was questioned by police and released on a promise to appear in court.
A second passenger on the same concourse was stopped just minutes after for having several boxes of bullets for a handgun.
No details have been released in that incident, but officials said they do not appear to be connected, the Miami Herald reported.
