Police are investigating after a security guard was shot and killed while trying to intervene during a robbery at an apartment complex parking lot in northeast Miami-Dade Friday morning.
The shooting happened at the Vista Palms Apartment Rentals in the 400 block of Northeast 191st Street.
Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Javier Baez said Kevin Jolicoeur, 32, works as a security guard elsewhere and lives at the apartment complex.

A witness, who didn't want to be identified, said the incident happened around 4:40 a.m., when a woman ran to her apartment yelling for help.
The victim told the woman that a man pointed a gun in her face and "told her to drop everything," and took her wallet, purse and keys, the woman said.
When the victim started walking away she heard two shots fired, and the security guard who tried to intervene was killed, she said.

"He's a nice guy, the guy works late so when I come home he's always patrolling the parking lot," the woman said.
Another resident, who also didn't want to be identified, said the guard was unarmed.
"To be out here at this time with no gun, no nothing, no radio, your life is on the line, everytime you come out here," the man said.
Baez said the details of the robbery were unknown and the suspect or suspects are still at large.
"My brother was a stand-up guy. You know what mean? That's what I want him to remembered as. As a guy who worked hard and every dime that he got, he worked hard for it," said his brother Tony Fabre.
