A Broward Sheriff’s deputy opens fire as two deputies were struck by a car in West Park.
Two Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are being treated at the hospital after a suspect struck them with his car, prompting one of the deputies to open fire on the vehicle.
BSO says that around 2:13 a.m., three deputies noticed a suspicious vehicle sitting in the parking lot of a plaza in the 4200 block of West Hallandale Boulevard in West Park.
A deputy saw the suspect, later identified as 49-year-old John Musso, slumped over the seat of the car with drug paraphernalia in plain view, officials said.
As the deputies approached, Musso reversed his vehicle and hit two of the deputies and a BSO unit. At least one of the deputies fired at the suspect.
The deputies were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Musso was eventually caught and has some superficial wounds that likely came from shattered glass, officials said.
Officials said Musso admitted he was doing drugs in the car when he passed out. He didn't say why he tried to flee.
Musso is expected to face two counts of aggravated battery to a law enforcement officer. It's unknown if he has hired an attorney.
