Police are investigating after a man was struck and killed by an out of control car as he sat at a Doral bus stop with his wife Tuesday night.
The incident happened around 9:45 p.m. at the stop near the International Mall in the 1400 block of Northwest 107th Avenue, according to Miami-Dade Police spokesman Roy Rutland.
Police said a newer model Ford Mustang was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on 107th Avenue when it went over a curb and struck and killed 67-year-old Giraldo Lopez, who was sitting on a bus bench.
Lopez's wife was able to quickly move out of the way and avoid the car, Rutland said. Her husband was pronounced dead at the scene.
"It's an absolute tragedy, we have a wife that actually witnessed her husband get struck and killed while she was seated directly next to him," Rutland said. "It's a really sad case."
The driver of the Mustang, identified as 42-year-old Michelle Soto, was not impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, police said.
The cause of the crash is being attributed to medical conditions, but Rutland did not elaborate on what the conditions were.
