A Plantation man is facing charges after police say he dragged an officer through a parking lot before leading authorities on a high-speed chase up the wrong way on Interstate 95 early Friday.
Thomas H. Eagan, 39, is charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding and grand theft auto in the incident that began just after 5 a.m., Miami Gardens Police said.
According to police, an officer spotted a suspicious car being driven by Eagan (pictured below) at a parking lot at 17021 Northwest 27th Avenue. When the officer ran the license plate, it came up as stolen, police said.
Eagan approached the officer, who tried to get information about the car, when a struggle ensued and Eagan jumped into the car and started driving off, dragging the officer through the parking lot, police said.

A police pursuit began and Eagan began driving northbound in the southbound express lane of I-95, and officers terminated the pursuit, police said.
Eagan continued to flee but was caught by Miami-Dade Police at Northwest 135th Street and Northwest 13th Avenue.
The officer who was dragged sustained minor injuries. A traffic crash caused by Eagan is also being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol, police said.
"A vehicle, which was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-95, collided with a motorcycle. The passenger of the motorcycle sustained critical injuries and was taken to the trauma center, said Joe Sanchez, FHP spokesman.
