A man was arrested after he punched an Aventura police officer working off duty in full uniform, who had initially approached the suspect because he was acting "odd," authorities said.
Jeremy Kevin Kaiser, 42, faces charges including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence and theft of firearm, the arrest affidavit said.
The officer approached Kaiser while working at Target on Thursday, and Kaiser immediately became hostile and began yelling and waving his balled fists, the affidavit said.
The officer tried to use his radio for help, but Kaiser charged at him, so the officer zapped him with his Taser in the chest, the report said.
Kaiser pulled the probes out and kept advancing and punched the officer in the face, authorities said. Kaiser ripped the radio shoulder microphone from the officer's shirt.
At some point, Kaiser tried to take the officer's gun, but ultimately, the officer was able to escape with his gun even though Kaiser got the hood open and was close to getting the officer's weapon, the report said.

An off-duty Miami-Dade firefighter and his girlfriend tried to help the officer apprehend the man.
Both Kaiser and the officer were transported to the hospital.
It wasn't immediately known Kaiser had an attorney.
