A young gibbon was found dead this week at a Gainesville zoo.
Officials at the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo say a female white-handed gibbon named Dulu was unresponsive when keepers found her Wednesday morning. She had become entangled in a rope swing, which has since been removed.
The Gainesville Sun reports that zoo staff members rushed Dulu to the veterinary school at the University of Florida, performing CPR in the van on the way, but she couldn't be revived.
Dulu was nearly three years old. Officials say the other three gibbons she had been living with haven't yet shown any abnormal behavior, but it's not uncommon for gibbons to experience depression when they lose a member of their group.
