Miami-Dade Fire Rescue saved the life of a truck driver after his tractor trailer ended up in a canal early Saturday morning.
The truck went into a canal on SW 8th Street, about 20 miles west of Krome Avenue, around 4:30 a.m.
It took rescuers 45 minutes to locate the truck. The driver survived because of an air pocket inside the truck's cab. A rescue diver guided the man out of the water, giving him his mouthpiece to breathe. The driver told rescuers he was scared to exit the cab of the truck because he did not know how to swim.
The driver was transported to Kendall Regional Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
