Driver Evacuates 35 Kids From School Bus Before Fire

Officials are calling a South Florida school bus driver a hero after she evacuated 35 students before her bus caught fire.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue reports that Kerra George was driving the bus to Limestone Creek Elementary in Jupiter Wednesday morning when she smelled smoke. The Palm Beach Post reports that George stopped the bus and told the children to get off the vehicle.

Fire Rescue District Chief Anthony Tozzi said smoke and flames were coming out of the engine compartment by the time firefighters arrived. The fire was successfully extinguished.

Tozzi says George did a remarkable job in taking the kids to safety.

No injuries were reported. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the fire.
