A dolphin in Marco Island gets to keep swimming after being rescued by a team of marine animal rescue experts on Friday.
The dolphin, affectionately named Seymour by the team, was reported as being seen with fishing line wrapped around its tail. If left unchecked, it could have affected Seymour's ability to survive. A plan was put it place shortly after to rescue the 8-year-old dolphin.
Once Seymour was secured by ther rescue team, the fishing line was cut away and he was taken to a boat ramp where a mobile X-ray machine checked for any more damage. Body measurements were taken and Seymour was tagged andc released into the waters of Marco Island.
“Discarded fishing line poses a very serious threat to all marine life, including manatees, sea turtles and dolphins like Seymour,” said Steve Lehr, from SeaWorld’s rescue team. “The easiest way to help is to always recycle fishing line properly in bins found at most docks.”
