The U.S. Coast Guard repatriated 35 Haitians and 23 Cubans on Friday after they were detained in separate incidents.
On Thursday a Coast Guard cutter spotted a Bahamian-flagged 28-foot vessel without navigation lights northwest of Port de Paix, Haiti. Authorities said they found the Haitians and two Indian migrants aboard the vessel.
The vessel and two Indian migrants were turned over to officials in the Bahamas
Fourteen of the Cuban migrants had been found on a rustic vessel north of Mariel, Cuba, on Monday. Nine others were found on Saturday by the cruise ship “Allure of the Seas” after their vessel was in danger of sinking.
