Coral Gables Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that injured a nine-year-old boy.
It happened around 6:40 p.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of South Greenway Drive.
Police said the vehicle, described as a white Honda Civic with a dark-colored hood, struck the boy who was standing beside his bicycle.
The vehicle then fled the scene westbound on South Greenway Drive.
Police said Sebastian Ochoa was riding his bike with his father when he stopped to look at a sign and got off his bike. His father, Ismael, then witnessed the vehicle strike his son.
"He was struck by a vehicle that was traveling westbound. Subsequently the child lands on the pavement, then the vehicle, in the process of fleeing the scene, ran over the child's legs," Officer Robert Alonso said.
Ochoa was transported to Miami Children's Hospital in stable condition with broken bones.
A neighbor said she heard the boy's scream and came outside and found him on the ground about 40 feet from the bicycle.
"People drive around here after 4:00 like this was a highway, absolutely no care for anyone crossing, for kids or anything," said a resident in the area.
Local
The vehicle was possibly driven by a white male with a beard. Police suspect the car does not have windshield damage.
"That person knew that he struck a person. He should've stopped, and that's what the law requires you to do," Officer Alonso said.
CGPD is requesting the public's assistance in locating this vehicle. Anyone with information on this crime or the vehicle's information is asked to contact police at (305) 442-1600.
