A carjacking suspect was apprehended after a chase that ended with a crash on the Palmetto Expressway Tuesday night, police said.
The incident began when an unsuspecting driver was close to the Florida’s Turnpike on SW 8th Street.
"A woman was in her car when she was approached by this man. He then robbed her at gunpoint and took her vehicle,” Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Roy Rutland said.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jorge Denacimiento, sped off in the black Honda Accord, but robbery detectives were soon on his tail, police said.
They pursued Denacimiento through different areas of Miami-Dade close to the airport. He struck two patrol cars before making his way onto the Palmetto, Rutland said.
On the expressway, Denacimiento soon wrecked the car, crashing it into five other vehicles, Rutland said.
Denacimiento then took off running into traffic as he tried to flee police, but they created a perimeter and searched for him by air and ground before K-9 units apprehended him, Rutland said.

Denacimiento was treated on the scene for K-9 dog bites, Rutland said. He was charged with armed robbery carjacking with a firearm and was being held without bond Wednesday.
It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
