Crews worked through the night fighting a brush fire near a mobile home park in Pembroke Pines Wednesday night that had grown, officials said.
The fire was reported near U.S. 27 in the western edge of the city. It was at about 50 acres at 6 p.m. but by 7:30 p.m. had grown to about 300 acres, officials said.
As of 1 p.m Thursday, Florida Forest Service tweeted the fire had grown bigger and was at 836 acres.
Footage showed Pembroke Pines firefighters and crews with the FFS at the scene. It was possible some residents of the community - Holly Lake - may have to be evacuated, officials said.
Resident Barbara Neanover said at one point the fire was about 150 feet from her house, so close she could smell it.
"If it had gotten one or two of these homes it would have all been gone, mobile homes, it takes five to 20 minutes and they're gone," Neanover said.
Officials said the fire was moving north and was becoming a threat to nearby Holiday Park.
