3 Passengers on Holland America Cruise Ship MS Ryndam Hospitalized in Miami

Three passengers aboard a Holland America cruise ship were taken to Miami-area hospitals after suffering separate medical emergencies Monday night, officials said.

A critical patient in cardiac arrest was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital after a hoist operation on the deck of the MS Ryndam around 10 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said.

The two other patients suffered non-life threatening injuries. All of the incidents were unrelated and occurred within about an hour of each other.

The ship was about three and a half miles east of Government Cut. The hoist operation was the fifth in the past six months and the second off a cruise ship out at sea, fire rescue officials said.

The Ryndam left Tampa on Sunday and was heading to Europe. Earlier this month, a couple was found dead on the Ryndam in an apparent murder-suicide while the ship was docked in Puerto Rico.
