A major fire inside a 20,000-square-foot Deerfield Beach warehouse Sunday night completely destroyed one bay and will take about 100 workers to cleanup, officials said.
Crews arrived at the scene at 4100 Powerline Road around 9:30 p.m., as massive flames shot out from the roof of the building. Officials initially were worried about a possible rood collapse due to the size of the fire.
Four businesses operate out of the warehouse, officials said.
“It’s going to be a lot of work for us to repair this,” Alicia Rae, property manager at Powerline Business Park, said. “It’s frustrating, it’s very frustrating, but we’ll get through it and take care of our tenants.”
Crews will work to board the building’s windows and wait for an engineer to clear the facility before assessing the cleanup required inside, Oscar Barrig, a worker for ServPro, a restoration service, said.
“We come in and clean all the content,” Barrig said. “It’s almost like a demo job, except we’re not doing anything to the structure.”
The fire left Rich Walker, a business owner who leases bays 2-5, wondering about business operations after the Independence Day holiday.

“I’m just anxious to figure out what I’m doing,” Walker said. “Tomorrow is the fourth, so we’re off, but come Wednesday, I have 18 employees, so what am I doing? Am I working? Am I not working? Am I allowed to clean up?”
