Over a dozen Cuban migrants made it safely to shore in the Florida Keys overnight.
Monroe County Sheriff’s posted a photo on Facebook showing the 13 people – 10 men and three women all reported to be in good health – who arrived near the Big Pine Key fishing lodge located off U.S.1 around 4 AM. They left Havana on Sunday.
The migrants were taken into the custody of Border Patrol agents and will be able to stay due to the “wet foot, dry foot” policy regarding those who come from Cuba to the United States.
Border Patrol believe this is the first landing of migrants onshore since the death of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro on November 25th.
