Jerry's Famous Deli on Collins Ave. became a bit more famous Wednesday evening when President Obama made a 10-minute unannounced stop before leaving Miami.
The Prez ordered two corned beef sandwiches on rye and insisted he pay for them, saying he wanted to support small business.
The second sandwich was for Miami Congressman Kendrick Meek, who joined the President for the deli visit. Meek is hoping to gain momentum from the President's support in his tight race for the U.S Senate against newcomer Jeff Greene in the Democratic primary.
Bartender Brandon O'Connell shook hands with the President and admitted he was starstruck. "I've served celebrities but not the leader of the free world," he said.
The President had arrived in Miami on Air Force One around 4:30 p.m. and spoke at a Democratic fundraiser at the Fontainebleu Hotel in Miami Beach, where he focused on the economy, jobs, and the upcoming midterm election.
Obama's Miami visit caps a three-day, five-state campaign swing. Just three months before the midterm elections, the President stumped for Meek and urged fellow Democrats to organize a grassroots effort to get Florida's CFO Alex Sink elected as the next Governor of the Sunshine State.
