A police officer was forced to open fire on a pit bull that bit a young boy Friday morning in Deerfield Beach.
The shooting happened shortly after 7 a.m. on the 200 block of Northeast 43rd Street as children were on their way to school.
Officers were called to the area after the dog had gotten loose and was chasing children, including the boy who was bitten in his arm.
A Broward Sheriff's Deputy was forced to shoot and kill the pit bull when it went after him, police said.
The bitten boy was taken by his mother to a hospital for treatment, though he wasn't seriously injured, police said.
