A baby whale that ended up beached on the shore of Hallandale Beach has died, officials said.
The pygmy sperm whale was found around 10 p.m. Thursday near the South Life Guard Tower, according to Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue.
Fire Rescue, working with Hallandale Police and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were all at the scene to try to help the whale.
A veterinarian from Marine Animal Rescue Society also responded to the scene.
But due to the 3-foot whale's young age and its condition when it washed ashore, the rescuers were unable to save it, and it had to euthanized on the shore.
The National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration will be performing a necropsy examination to determine the cause of the little whale's death.
