Woman Stabbed Neighbor Over $2: Police

Oakland Park woman charged with attempted murder in neighbor stabbing

An Oakland Park woman is facing an attempted murder charge after police say she stabbed her neighbor after he refused to give her $2.

Dorothy Cooper, 61, was arrested Sunday after the altercation in the 200 block of Northwest 32nd Street, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest report.

The report said Cooper went to her neighbor's house and asked him for $2 and then $5, but he refused.

Cooper was "outraged" at his refusal, the report said, so she attacked the neighbor with a large steak knife, stabbing him in the back.

She then chased him into the street until he collapsed, and "left him there for dead," the report said.

The victim sustained two stab wounds, one in the back and one in the buttocks, and was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

Police took Cooper into custody, and she admitted to stabbing her neighbor, the report said. However, Cooper told officers she was provoked after the man asked her for sex and struck her in the face, the report said.

Cooper was being held without bond Monday. It was unknown whether she has an attorney.
