A veteran Pinecrest Police officer was arrested early Friday on four counts of sexual activity with a minor, authorities said.
Kevin McKenzie, 38, was placed in custody just after midnight Friday for having sex with a 16-year-old, according to Pinecrest Police.
"This moral character violation, of the standards for Florida law enforcement officers, represents a serious breach of discipline," read a statement from Pinecrest Police. "Officer McKenzie has violated the public trust, dishonored his oath of office and tarnished the badge."
McKenzie, an officer with 13 years of experience, was relieved of duty without pay, police said. Police Chief Samuel Ceballos will recommend his dismissal to the Pinecrest Village Manager.
