Court hearings began Monday in the lawsuit of North Miami mayor, Lucie Tondreau, who is accused of not living in the city for at least one year before the election, as the city's law requires.
Former North Miami mayor Kevin Burns, who wants Tondreau tossed out of office, filed the suit alleging that Tondreau did not live in North Miami for at least one year before the election.
Monday the court was expected to look at Tondreau’s cell phone records, which hope to prove where she was living during the time in question.
Burns said the court battle is not a way of trying to get back in office, despite losing to North Miami Tondreau for office.
“In the initial election I came in first. In the runoff, I did not beat her by the votes. However, Youre not allowed to vote for somebody who is not qualified to be on the ballot,” Burns said. “Whether they order a reelection a runoff election, that fine with me. It’s not about me, it’s about following the law and protecting our democratic process.
Tondreau was not available for comment.
