A long-awaited bridge is about to open up for Miami-Dade drivers. The brand new two-lane connector will ease traffic on 836 eastbound to 826 northbound.
The bridge is expected to open by 5 a.m. Friday. Drivers will exit about a mile earlier than the old ramp on 836 to get to 826.
"It's a high capacity flyover," explained Oscar Gonzalez, a spokesman with the Florida Department of Transportation.
Drivers watched its piece-by-piece construction for the past nine months. The flyover is the first of four that will connect drivers on the interchange between the Dolphin and Palmetto expressways.
The connector is part of a project that includes 45 bridges, and began in November 2009. It's expected to be complete by fall 2015.
