Two men are facing charges after police animals were punched in separate incidents on the same day in Key West last week, police said.
The incidents happened Wednesday, when a 21-year-old man allegedly punched a police K-9 in the head and a 28-year-old man was reported to have punched a police horse in the neck area for no apparent reason, according to police reports obtained by KeysNet.com.
The K-9, a 4-year-old German shepherd Cyress, was hit by Shanon Adams, who was charged with burglary and criminal mischief after breaking into an office, according to the report.
When the dog found Adams at the office, he reacted by punching the dog in the head, the report said.

When found by police, Adam said he did not know where he was and reported issues with sleepwalking and waking up in strange places after drinking, said the report.
The horse was hit when police were working a mounted patrol Spring Break detail and were interrupted by Yeorgo Kapiris, identified as a farmer, the report said.

Kapiris walked up to the horse, leaned against him and then punched him in the left neck area, according to the report.

Both men were charged with misdemeanor battery on a law enforcement officer and were released from jail after posting bond Thursday, records showed. It was unknown whether they have attorneys.
Under law, police department animals are considered law officers.
