A New Jersey teacher wanted on charges of engaging in sex acts with a 16-year-old student was arrested in South Florida, U.S. Marshals said Friday.
Jennalin Garcia-Calle, 28, was arrested Thursday at the Recovery Institute of South Florida in Davie by U.S. Marshals and fugitive task force officers from the Fort Lauderdale and Davie Police departments, the agency said.
According to the U.S. Marshals, Garcia-Calle, from Plainfield, engaged in sex acts with the student at the New Jersey high school where she is a teacher, while she had supervisory or disciplinary power over the student.
She's also accused of performing indecent, immoral or unlawful acts in the presence of the teen, the U.S. Marshals said. The acts are alleged to have taken place between December and January.
A warrant had been issued for Garcia-Calle's arrest on Tuesday, and the U.S. Marshals received information on Thursday that she'd fled the Newark, New Jersey area, the agency said.
Garcia-Calle was booked into the Broward County Jail on charges of sexual assault and child abuse. She's being held without bond and it's unknown whether she has an attorney.
